Summer continued with average temperatures and occasional
rainfall, allowing the grapes to reach proper ripeness. Harvest began on October
5th.

In cellar

Once in the cellar, the grapes are not crushed, to keep the berries intact during
the first fermentation. Maceration lasts 35-40 days. After an initial decantation,
the wine is placed to age in steel vats for a few days before being transferred
to first-passage French oak barriques, which represent the winery’s highest
selection of wood. Maturation in barriques lasts 12-24 months. Evolution
concludes with refinement in the bottle until optimal maturity is reached.

Tasting notes

Intense red colour with purple hues. The bouquet is elegant with persistent
mineral, balsamic, floral and fruity notes such as jam and blackberry. It is
completed with spicy and cocoa notes from ageing in wood.
On the palate it is very full but at the same time supported by a balanced acidity
and good flavour, with distinct notes of prune, vanilla and chocolate. The finish is
long and intense enhancing the soft tannin.

Plus

The name of this wine is a tribute to the historic owner of winery Castelvecchi,
Marquis Abelardo Gutierrez de la Solana, who contributed to making this
territory famous for the quality of its wine, appreciated in Italy and abroad
more than a century ago.

Pairings

Suitable as a meditation wine, perfect in combination with red meats such as
braised wild boar or lasagne with meat sauce, truffle and cream of mushroom
soup.

Taste at 18 °C

In vineyard Produced only in the most favourable vintages, Solana is born in a terroir that is unique in the world in terms of microclimate and soil characteristics, located at an altitude of 500-600 m, from 50% Sangiovese, 25% Syrah and 25% Merlot grapes obtained by reproduction through mass selection.
